10 Best Cars Of 2016 With Techie Features That Will Astound You

Innovation comes in many forms. For these high-tech cars, the main innovation is that you can stay safe on the road, connect up easily with your phone, and even start the car using your voice and the Amazon Alexa speaker. They are my top picks of the last year.

1. 2017 Genesis G90 ($68,100)

A modern business sedan with some extra flair, the Genesis G90 has a lower profile than you'd expect and more oomph (up to 420 horsepower) for spirited driving. A compartment for your phone uses Qi wireless charging; using Amazon Alexa, you can start the car by voice and set the temperature.

2. 2017 Chrysler Pacifica ($28,595)

Everything about this family vehicle is ready for the next generation. There are two screens for the second row passengers that include games and other apps. An HDMI port and a cargo bay on the floor let you connect and store a video game console. The vehicle has an on-board vacuum cleaner and there's a Wi-Fi hotspot for tapping into email.

3. 2017 Cadillac CT6 ($53,495)

The most impressive spec on this business sedan has to do with how it's made. Cadillac went back to the drawing board and designed the CT6 using lighter, more durable parts including carbon fiber and aluminum. The car can also record video from the front or behind as you drive (similar to a GoPro).

4. 2017 Subaru Legacy ($21,995)

Subaru is known for their all-wheel drive system and rugged, long-lasting cars. The Legacy is a big step up in technology in other ways. They added a pre-collision braking system to avoid accidents, lane-keeping assistance to keep you centered on the road, and even an app you can use to call for roadside assistance.

5. 2017 Ford Focus RS ($36,120)

Not all tech improvements are related to autonomous driving or automated parking. The Focus RS has a button that lets you drift around corners on a track. A 350-horsepower engine in a compact car makes track driving even more exciting.

6. 2017 Volvo S90 ($46,950)

Volvo is back. This high-tech marvel, one of my favorites of the past few years not just this year, can drive in semi-autonomous mode on the highway to adjust steering and speed. The dashboard interface looks and responds more like an Apple iPad. A new technology called CleanZone purifies the air. The car can sense if a large animal like a moose jumps out into the road and brake automatically.

7. 2017 VW Passat ($22,440)

The amazing accomplishment with this mid-sized sedan is that it is packed with tech features you'd normally find only on a luxury car, such as adaptive cruise control, automated parking, lane-keeping and a collision alert system. Yet, the Passat is still affordable and fun to drive with more precise steering than similar sedans.

8. 2017 Honda Ridgeline ($29,475)

A couple of features stand out in the new Ridgeline truck. The unique audio system in the truck bed, ideal for tailgating, uses speakers hidden in the walls of the truck bed. Pop up a hidden compartment in the bed and you'll find a large beverage cooler (which you can also fill with water).

9. 2017 Mercedes-Benz S550 Cabriolet ($131,400)

Everything about this car is high-tech. There's adaptive cruise control that adjusts your speed and steering automatically. The headlights use a sensor to determine brightness, based on road conditions. In a heavy wind, the S550 can adjust itself to keep you centered on the road.

10. 2017 Audi TT Coupe ($43,500)

Audi dramatically improved the dashboard interface in the Audi TT, especially the one right above the steering wheel. The Virtual Cockpit can show Google Earth as you drive, which makes it a lot easier to find parking spaces downtown or a shortcut off the main interstate.
